WHAT WE DO
MISSION & HISTORY.
Kemtiyu Arts & Media is a cultural, arts and media hub committed to amplifying the histories, voices, and liberatory visions of Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people. Rooted in Black feminist and community-centered traditions, we bridge storytelling, education, and arts to dismantle systemic violence and create access to knowledge and resources.
Through projects like Lifting As They Climbed and Invisible Giants, Kemtiyu Arts & Media amplifies the radical contributions of Black women in Chicago, ensuring their intellectual, arts and organizing legacies remain foundational to present and future movements.
With deep commitments to Chicago’s South and West Side communities, the organization creates educational resources, produces transformative media, and builds organizing tools ensuring that communities have the resources to educate themselves, resist oppressive forces and reclaim agency over their lives.
